MARIA'S MUSINGS
“Give Her a Crown” is the title of the interesting art exhibition John and I attended last week at the Melrose Gallery. Ceramics, metal tubes, rusted steel, hair extensions, bits of paper, and wall murals were just some of the materials used by the female artists to depict the inherent strength of women to overcome adversity, uplift themselves, and empower others.
The exhibition is an initiative of “The Crown Fund” that believes that the fight against gender-based violence starts in schools. They use the power of creativity and storytelling to drive empathy and behavioural change.
Imagine how much better the world would be if mothers and fathers taught their girl-child to set acceptable boundaries, develop a healthy self-esteem, learn what good qualities to look for in a potential life-partner, and most importantly, to wear the Crown of the King’s daughter.
In the Book of Proverbs, we find a description of the qualities of a “woman of noble character”: she’s kind, thrifty, nurturing, wise, she has business acumen, she values her good reputation, and most of all, she’s a woman who loves God. Such qualities are more precious than rubies and other earthly treasures.
