MARIA'S MUSINGS
Have you ever fantasized about being a flying trapeze artist in a travelling circus? Imagine swinging back and forth, gaining momentum, the moment of letting go… Oh the thrill of propelling through thin air, arms outstretched. Then the gasp and the roar of the crowd far below as your catcher grasps your wrists with split-second timing and says “Gotcha”. It’s then that you realise that the star of the show is not you, after all, but your catcher, without whom you would just have to settle for swinging back and forth, or, horror of horrors, letting go and crashing to the ground!
The trust between you and the catcher must be complete. You trust the catcher to safely do the catching, every time. The catcher trusts you to stretch out your arms and do nothing! If you try to grab the catcher’s wrists, they could break!
And so it is with our faith-life. We could settle for just swinging back and forth, or we can overcome our fear and let go, stretch out our arms, and wait for the faithful Father to safely catch us and say “I’ve got you”.
