The need to be part of a tight family group is very strong in living creatures. When it’s a loving family situation there is nothing that can beat that feeling of security and belonging. Much of our identity comes from the family name, which is usually that of the father.

People tend to lump us all together and refer to “the Kayes” or “the Smiths” and often tar us with the same brush as the rest of our family.  This can be a good or a bad thing depending on the reputation of our families. Not everyone has a good relationship with their fathers or experience a happy family situation. 

 

The good news is that we can belong to the most wonderful family ever, with our loving God as the Father who cares for us, His children. Now we are no longer defined by who the world says we are. We are defined by who Christ says that we are. In Him is where our true identity lies.
