Once upon a time, a very astute king collected the wisest sayings in the land.  He wrote them down in beautifully presented couplets in the Book of Proverbs, which can be found in the Old Testament of the Bible.  He considered the role of the father so important that he started off with instructions to fathers to teach their boy-child to “fear the Lord”, wisdom and good old common sense.  King Solomon’s Book of Proverbs contains advice on every topic under the sun – drugs, drink, friends, women, business, education, discipline, bullying, peer pressure … seems there’s nothing new under the sun! I was surprised and delighted to discover as I read through it, that its contents are ageless and just as relevant today as it was in 1000 BC.

So, fathers, I encourage you to read Proverbs and you might just find the guidance you’re looking for.  After all, your son will be a father one day and he needs all the help you can give him.
