Dear Friends
I hope you enjoyed The Month of Love as much as I did! In February 2025 I wrote about having muisneste (being newly in love); I hope you’ve all experienced that delicious feeling at least once in your lives!
My latest hobby is Latin and Ballroom dance classes at DanceMore Dance Studio in Bedforview (this is part of the plan I have for my “one wild and precious life”. See January newsletter). What fun! We learned to do the mooch (a basic dance step in jive), and it got me wondering what that word means. Turns out nobody really knows why it’s called “mooch”, but further investigation revealed at least two further interesting uses of “mooch” in slang, so I’ve selected it as the Word of the Month (see below).
Summer Heart
To celebrate the Month of Love, I painted a cheerful Summer Heart using only three primary colours to create a vibrant bouquet of Iceland poppies, daisies and forget-me-nots. This watercolour painting is 31 cm x 31 cm, on Arches cold press watercolour paper and it’s available to buy for R450.

Word of the Month
"Mooch"
To mooch means to walk around slowly doing things a bit aimlessly without purpose. (It also means to sponge off others, but that’s too negative for this newsletter!)
"If you tend to mooch around the house, chances are you may have muisneste!"
Workshop Photos
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we painted a simplified version of my Summer Heart using just the three primary colours to produce a wonderfully colourful array of beautiful flowers! We used wet-into-wet technique throughout to make the most of the translucent Daniel Smith water-colour paints. Well done, ladies, you did yourselves proud!
