Dear Friends
August was a month for preparing our gardens for Spring and sweeping away the dust of dreary old Winter in joyful anticipation. August was also an industrious time at my studio: I ran a charcoal drawing workshop, organised and hosted an Open Studio Weekend, and even managed to complete some new paintings in time! It was only by the grace of God and His constant reassuring presence that I managed to hold it together, dig deep and pull it off. God sent amazing people into my life to support me and lift my spirits. I’m so grateful.
Open Studio Weekend
I’m thrilled to announce that our fund raising target of R2500 was exceeded by over R1000, and soon my church will sport some brand new signage. Thank you so much to everyone who generously donated their wares, time, expertise and support to make this venture succeed. God is blessing the work of our church.
The theme was “Flower Power”, with a nod to the hippie era and the famous Woodstock Music and Art festival held on Yasgur’s Farm in Bethel, New York, on August 15–18, 1969. I had the privilege of attending the 1994 Woodstock festival, which was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival. I was part of the Dave Marks Hidden Years Project in collaboration with Beyer’s Naudé Foundation. We had V.I.P. status, so thankfully were spared the drenching rain, mud-slides, and lack of food and amenities. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Because it’s my birthday month, I’ve decided to share this 2007 video of a younger me at TJs, performing my interpretation of Joni Mitchell’s iconic “Woodstock”. (John took the video from his seat in the audience). Click/tap here for more of my videos and songs.
